It’s the home of the beautiful Loire valley in the centre and the spectacular monastery on Mount Saint Michel in the north-west. It’s also the home of Paris, the City of Love. In the capital city visitors can see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre Museum.
France is the world’s number one tourist destination, with Spain and the USA numbers two and three. The number one destination is Fontainebleau Forest and Castle, to the south of Paris, with 13 million visitors a year. Other popular destinations are Disneyland, with 12.6 million visitors and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, with 12 million visitors. Disneyland Paris is 32 kilometres to the east of the capital.
In a normal year about 75 million tourists visit France. The majority of tourists are from the UK (13.5 million) and Germany (13 million), and 600 thousand are from China.
