20/20

Hi there!

As you probably know, the expression 20/20 mainly refers to visual acuity, clarity of vision, or the ability to recognize small details with precision, and the sensitivity of the interpretative faculty of the brain. More

When it comes to teaching and/or learning, it is a tool that helps the student to improve their reading, vocabulary and grammar skills. A 20/20 exercise looks like a cloze test, a blank every fifth word and a number of clues in their base form for the student to choose from - nouns in the singular, verbs in the infinitive, and depending on the level of language of the passage, words will be deprived of some prefixes and/or suffixes.

READING ALOUD. After five minutes of silent reading, the student should be able to figure out the appropriate form of the clues, and also figure out the rest of the blanks so as to read the passage out loud at normal speed. See The Blank Pyramid here for details.

VOCABULARY & GRAMMAR. FILL IN THE BLANKS. The student will be presented with a chart, where they will have to write down all the clues first, in their corresponding form and then any number of clues of their choice up to a total of twenty blanks. Each correct answer is worth half a point.

WRITING. In a similar fashion as above, the student will have to write down the passage in full until they have used all the clues.

Stay tuned...
