While they are making instruments out of plastic containers and cans, the children learn about problem-solving and being creative. The group have come a long way since they first began. What started out as a husband and wife team is now a large group of travelling musicians and educators. In addition to performing at schools, they play to audiences of all ages at universities and in concert halls all over the US. Awareness of environmental issues has grown a lot over the past few decades. This is partly because of projects like Bash the Trash. It seems that when Bertles said that it was possible to change the way people think, he was right.
