415.1 - At the time of the murder, a man claimed that he was travelling on the 8 o'clock train to London and that he had arrived to work on time. When the Inspector asked (him) if a later train would have got him to work on time, the man agreed that it would have, but he added that he always travelled early. The Inspector suggested that he was lying because the 8 o'clock train had broken down so the man had caught the 8.25 train ( = one ).

415.2 - When the murder was committed, a man claimed that he was travelling on the 8 o'clock train. He said that he had arrived to work on time. Then the Inspector asked (him) if a later train would have got him to work on time. Though the man agreed (that) it would have, he said that he always travelled early. In reply to that, the Inspector suggested that the man was lying as the 8 o'clock train had broken down and therefore the man had caught the 8.25 train.
